Design for manufacture
A prototype that works once is not a product. We rework the design so a manufacturer can build it the same way every time, at a cost that makes sense, and we stay involved through the first run.
Who it is for
Startups with a working prototype heading into their first batch, and companies whose product is expensive, slow or inconsistent to build.
Whether your product is made by a local fabricator or an overseas factory, clear drawings and agreed tolerances are what keep the hundredth unit the same as the first.
What we build
Tolerances and materials
We loosen what does not matter, tighten what does, and choose materials your manufacturer can actually source.
Fewer parts, simpler assembly
Fewer fasteners and an order of assembly a line worker can follow without guessing.
Enclosures
Housings designed for the process that will make them, whether that is sheet metal, machining, printing or moulding.
Drawing packages
Dimensioned drawings, a bill of materials and assembly instructions a manufacturer can quote and build from.
Working with your manufacturer
We talk to your fabricator or factory directly and answer their questions, so nothing is lost in translation.
First production run
We stay involved through the first batch and fix what the process reveals.
How a project runs
Review
We take the prototype apart and list what will be hard, slow or expensive to repeat.
Rework
Tolerances, materials and assembly steps are changed with the manufacturer in the room.
Pilot
A small pilot batch shows where the process still varies.
Hand over
Final drawings, bill of materials and assembly instructions, ready for production.

Questions we are asked
When should we start thinking about manufacture?
Earlier than most teams do. Changes are cheap while the design is still on paper and expensive once tooling has been made.
Can you work with the manufacturer we already use?
Yes, and we prefer it. We rework the design around their process and stay in contact through the first run.
We do not have a manufacturer yet. Can you help?
We can prepare a drawing package that any fabricator can quote from and help you compare the quotes. The choice and the contract stay with you.
Do we own the drawings?
Yes. You receive the drawings, models and bill of materials at handover.
